What is CBD? What is metabolism? Does CBD have effects on a person's metabolism? This article discusses the formulation of CBD, side effects, taking CBD, and effects of CBD on metabolism.

Recent research has shown that CBD can boost metabolism and reduce food intake, facilitating weight loss. For instance, animal studies show that CBD usually impacts weight through interacting with CB2 and CB1 receptors in lymphoid tissues and mental, which play a role in metabolism. It can facilitate browning fat cells, the essential fat responsible for giving heat by burning calories. Metabolism can be boosted in many ways like; making breakfast mandatory, having quality sleep always, taking fat-burning food, and exercising more. This article will elaborate more on CBD and its effect on metabolism.

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical compound found in cannabis plants: marijuana and hemp. There are over 100 types of such compounds collectively known as cannabinoids. Unlike THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), another prominent cannabinoid, CBD does not have psychoactive effects. This means it can deliver the desired result without making the user 'high'. CBD products have become famous after the passing of the 2018 Firm Bill. This Bill legalized CBD products at the federal level, provided the THC level does not exceed 0.03%. The manufacturer incorporated CBD products in various products, including gummies, capsules, edibles, pills, vapes, and tropical products. Perez et al. (2022) suggested that consumers claim that CBD products have an influential positive impact on their bodies, and the anti-aging property also is anti-inflammatory.

Formulation of CBD

CBD has three formulations: full spectrum, isolates, and broad spectrum.

Full-Spectrum CBD

This formulation has all the help plant elements, including CBD, THC, flavonoids, and terpenes. It contains all other cannabinoids such as CBN and CBG. Full-spectrum CBD is preferable to consumers who need to benefit from all hemp plant products. This type is associated with the entourage effect.

Broad-spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD is the formulation that contains compounds and cannabinoids from cannabis plants. It includes cannabinol and terpenes such as limonene.

The broad- spectrum contains multiple compounds. It does not contain THC because its combination works together, and the output products produce a heightened effect.

CBD Isolate

This formulation usually comes from the hemp plant, contains no other cannabis plant compound, and has a low amount of THC. CBD isolate is in the form of crystal CBD; it is grounded and sold in crystal form.

The Side Effect of CBD

According to Krame (2015), although CBD benefits an individual, it also has side effects such as drowsiness, fatigue, and reduced appetite, which will cause weight loss and drying of the mouth. Using CBD when under medication can disrupt the use of the drug like a blood thinner; another issue is there is no correct dose of CBD to be taken by the users.

How CBD Is Taken

CBD comes in many forms involving extract, capsules, patches, vapes, and the preparation of topicals to be applied on the skin. Cream (2020) suggested that applying lotion, creams, and CBD-infused oil is the best way to reduce inflammation. Also, CBD-like tinctures are well modified when placed under the tongue; they can easily be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Effect of CBD on Metabolism

THC is one cannabinoid that can influence metabolism since it is associated with stimulating hunger and causing munchies. Romero-Zerbo et al. (2020) noted that CBD triggers genes that facilitate the breakdown of fats. The study above also showed that CBD involvement in boosting activities and the number of mitochondrial calories could be reduced. According to Fasinu et al. (2016),  the protein that is usually involved in giving room for new fat cells in the body is reduced by CBD.

Fat created in the body gives different results like white fats usually increase risks such as diabetes and heart diseases. In contrast, brown fat usually burns energy resulting in weight loss. Celebrates et al. (2022) showed that CBD could induce fat browning and turn white fat to brown.

Endocannabinoids assist CBD in interacting with the body. The metabolic enzyme that endocannabinoid is made up of can signal receptors and chemicals. This enhances it to be connected with several metabolic enzymes, for example, transporting nutrients and storing of energy; sometime, it may be included straight to insulin sensitivity.

Excess triggering of the endocannabinoid system can cause abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, and energy y storage in fat cells. The CB1 receptor, when excess stimulated, can raise the likelihood of developing metabolic syndrome, which is related to adverse symptoms such as excess body fat, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar. CBD is a CB1 antagonist that may have the ability to treat such a condition.
