DO CBD EDIBLES REALLY WORK?

DO CBD EDIBLES REALLY WORK?

CBD edibles offer an easy and enjoyable way of consuming CBD compared to tinctures and capsules.  Unlike other CBD products with a clinical feel, edibles come in a variety of flavors. Many people wonder whether CBD edibles work with the additional flavors and colors. This article discusses the effectiveness of the CBD edibles.

What is CBD?

CBD is a compound found in the hemp plant alongside other compounds such as THC. CBD is because it is non-psychoactive. CBD is popular for its multiple health benefits. It is used for treating seizures, mild and chronic pain, nausea, and skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. Additionally, CBD can be consumed in the form of tinctures, capsules, pills, and edibles. There are other alternative ways of using CBD such as applying topically on the skin.

What are CBD edibles?

CBD edibles are normal foods and drinks infused with CBD. Marinotti & Sarill,(2020) observed that the edibles come in three spectrums; full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolates. The full spectrum contains all cannabinoids including THC. Broad-spectrum contains all cannabinoids like terpene but does not contain THC. In contrast, the isolates are pure; they only contain CBD. When buying any CBD product, it is good to check the type of CBD they contain.

The most popular CBD edibles

There are many CBD edibles in the market. Almost all foods and drinks can be infused with CBD. However, the following are the most commonly available edibles.

CBD brownies and cookies

Brownies and cookies are common snacks consumed by many people worldwide. Therefore, infusing these snacks with CBD promotes the use of CBD in a convenient manner.  They are baked at an average temperature of 350 degrees. Since CBD is sensitive to high temperature their potency should be preserved at low temperatures.

CBD gummies

These are the most common type of edibles worldwide. They are available both online and in the local market. You can also make them at home. They are easy to consume just like other chewable gummies. The only difference between them and other gummies is the nutrients from CBD.

CBD tea and Coffee

These are the main CBD hot drinks. They are a very convenient way of consuming CBD. Unlike caffeine, CBD does not cause addiction. You only get used to the good feeling that you want it over and over again.  When infusing CBD in your coffee or tea, do not bring CBD to a boil, add it to already boiled water and cover it for a few minutes for CBD to be completely infused.

Do CBD edibles work?

Just like other CBD products, CBD edibles work incredibly well. However, there are some claims that CBD products treat serious diseases such as cancer. They are effective at treating mild conditions and diseases that do not require high doses of CBD. The CBD compound clings onto the cells along the alimentary canal and immune system treating certain conditions. One study found that patients who took CBD edibles daily, twice a day reported reduced levels of anxiety and improved sleep. Therefore, edibles are good at treating sleeplessness and anxiety.  CBD edibles are also effective in treating mild inflammation and pain.  They can treat joint pains and pain and joint stiffness (Britch et al., 2021).

How many CBD edibles should you take?

There is no specific number of edibles one should take. The amount depends on preferences and the reason why you are taking the edibles. If you are treating a serious condition, you can take more edibles. However, beginners can start with a single edible a day, and increase gradually until they feel the effects.

Will CBD edibles make you high?

CBD edibles can’t make you high nor can they make you fail a drug test. CBD edibles do not contain THC. THC is the compound responsible for the high feeling. Even though CBD products contain a small amount of THC, the amount does not exceed 0.3%. This amount is too low to make you feel high or fail a drug test. However, to be on the safe side, buy a broad spectrum or CBD isolate edibles. Full-spectrum edibles may have a higher amount of THC (Evans, 2020).

Where to buy CBD edibles

Where to buy CBD edibles is much determined by state law on cannabis use. Some states have legalized the use of Cannabis and all its constituents. In such states, you can buy edibles from any food outlet or kiosk. However, if a state has not legalized cannabis, be more careful. Buy from licensed sellers, otherwise, you risk being jailed. If you are purchasing edibles online, ensure you have details of your seller to confirm whether they are licensed or not. To be sure you are buying a legit product, ask your seller to provide you with a certificate of analysis (COA). COA provides information on the quality of your product backed by third-party laboratories. It gives details on the amount of THC and CBD in the product. It also gives information on any contamination with bacteria and other contaminants.

Are there any side effects of CBD edibles?

CBD edibles, just like other ingestible CBD products do not have serious side effects. CBD might result in drowsiness, changes in appetite, and fatigue. In very rare cases, ingesting too much CBD can lead to liver damage. There is not enough information on the effects of CBD on babies and fetuses. Therefore, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should avoid CBD products. Additionally, CBD can interact with some medications. If you are under medication, you should avoid CBD edibles.

Conclusion

CBD edibles just like other CBD products are effective in treating some diseases and conditions. However, edibles cannot treat serious conditions. They can only treat mild pains and conditions such as nausea and anxiety. Also, the edibles can be purchased online or from the local market. They can interact with medications and cause fatigue and dizziness.
