The Keto diet may not sound familiar to many; the Keto diet and CBD complement and work together to improve health and wellness. Even so, utilizing CBD provides other benefits such as improving appetite, relieving stress, and combating inflammation.

The Keto diet is growing popular in the world of health and wellness, and many people are now considering it as a form of losing weight. Reports from people who have tried the Keto diet show that it can help improve sleep, reduce inflammation, and lose weight. Staying healthy is a personal responsibility, and the Keto diet can help you achieve this as it also seems to be the remedy for several ailments. But where does CBD come in? What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol, as it is commonly referred to, is an extract of the cannabis plant and one of the second most pre-eminent cannabinoids. The mention of cannabis may be a concern for many, but there is no cause for alarm as CBD is safe. What Is Keto Diet?  

Keto is short for Ketogenic, a high-fat, low-carb meal plan. In simple terms, a Keto diet limits carbs, resulting in the body burning fat for fuel. A Keto diet aims to assist the body into a metabolic state known as ketosis. Ketosis may lead to carb cravings, resulting in headaches when the cravings reach their limits. The fewer carbs you have, the more effective the Keto diet, and getting to ketosis becomes easier alongside losing weight and managing type 2 diabetes. With a Keto diet, water is ideal, but tea and coffee are also not bad. However, you ought to avoid using sugar and milk in tea or coffee as this can multiply the carbs in the body. Wine is also fine but avoids sweet alcoholic drinks.

CBD, Keto Diet, and Weight Loss 

One of the many reasons people are Keto dieting is because of the claims that this meal plan helps with losing weight. Studies have backed up this claim suggesting that the Keto diet is more productive in losing weight than a low-fat diet. The Keto diet is a low-carb diet; when the body achieves ketosis, the body lacks enough carbs to burn as energy. So, where does the body convert energy? In ketosis, the body is forced to convert the fats within with the help of CBD, which accelerates the fat-burning process. It is safe to say that CBD is a catalyst in all this.      

Good and Bad Fats

Normally people label fats into one category. There are two types of fat within the body: White fat and brown fat. Most of the fat within the human body is white fat, whose function is to insulate the organs. These white cells accumulate energy in huge fat droplets around the body. Excessive white fat cells are linked to obesity. Shi et al. (2016) noted that brown fat cells are special as they are activated when one gets cold, also known as thermogenesis. Brown fat cells can be compared to an in-built heater for the body. It breaks down blood sugar and fat molecules to induce heat to regulate the body's temperature. Unlike the fat white cells, brown fat cells reserve energy in smaller droplets formulated to burn them. White fat cells are just there to keep your organs insulated, but brown fat cells do all the work regarding metabolism.      

The Endocannabinoid System

The endocannabinoid system is a group of neuromodulatory lipids and their receptors, which exist all over the body within mammalian tissues. It consists of endocannabinoids, endocannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), and enzymes. According to Kendall et al. (2017), the CB1 receptors are mostly linked to the central nervous system, while the CB2 receptors are mainly in the immune system. So, where does the endocannabinoid system come in all this? The ECS is essential in regulating metabolism. Fellous et al. (2020) stated that CBD activates the CB2 receptors, which help promote the transition from white fat to brown fat, causing thermogenesis – a switch from chemical energy to thermal energy in the body. Although more research is needed to ascertain these claims, CBD and Keto diet might be the solution to effective weight loss.  

What Is Ketosis?

Ketosis is a metabolic process when the body lacks enough carbs to burn for energy. So, in turn, the body burns the available fat. During the state of ketosis, the liver turns fat in the body into molecules known as ketones which are utilized by the brain and other organs for energy. A Keto diet is aimed at reducing carbs for ketosis to happen. The downside of ketosis is that, at times, you may feel like you caught the Keto flu. In other cases, ketosis may bring about headaches, which is why it is important to drink a lot of water when on a Keto diet, as the headaches may result from dehydration. However, with CBD in the picture, you can say goodbye to these headaches, but since CBD is not an antibiotic, it may not work on the first dose. Everyday use of CBD will act on these headaches but don't forget to take a lot of water.
