Joy of Life Season 2 Ep 26 Recap & Spoilers: Which Secret Did Zhang Ruoyun Discover About His Late Mother?
The ongoing Wuxia C-drama Joy of Life Season 2, starring Zhang Ruoyun and Li Qin, released episode 26 on 28 May 2024. The episode primarily centres on the events following the marriage of Fan Xian (Zhang Ruoyun) and Princess Wan Er (Li Qin). The couple is wed according to ancestral rituals, marking a joyous occasion for them and their families. Even the emperor sends a handwritten scroll of congratulations to commemorate the event.
After the ceremony, as Fan Xian and Wan Er rest in their chamber, Fan Xian catches sight of Wu Zhu, who has come to visit in secrecy. Wu Zhu, the blind guard who has always protected Fan Xian, is his mother’s loyal retainer. Fan Xian inquires about his whereabouts, but Wu Zhu remains silent, mentioning only that he is investigating his past. He sought answers from Ku He, who was reluctant to divulge any information. Wu Zhu is also delving into the history of Lady Qing Mei, Fan Xian’s late mother.
Fan Xian believes his mother emerged from the divine temple and vows to take Wu Zhu north to help him recall his past. Wu Zhu speaks of travelling south to revisit where he stayed with Fan Xian, mentioning the serial killings in Jiangnan. He assures Fan Xian he is not responsible for the murders but admits the killer’s technique resembles his own. Fan Xian trusts Wu Zhu implicitly, convinced he is not the perpetrator.
Wu Zhu worries that he should have stayed away from Fan Xian, fearing he might have lost control and caused harm. His sole purpose is to protect Fan Xian from impending danger, but the possibility of being responsible for heinous crimes torments him.
Joy of Life Season 2 Episode 26: Zhang Ruoyun Encounters an Old Acquaintance
Wu Zhu urges Fan Xian to check his sword for bloodstains and advises him to visit Mount Cang before leaving as quietly as he arrived.
Wan Er proves herself a worthy companion to Fan Xian as she meets his peers. She expresses her gratitude to Qi Nian and the members of the Overwatch Council for their support and protection of her husband, rewarding them generously for their efforts.
Meanwhile, the chief shopkeeper of the Qingyue Hall visits Fan Xian’s residence and requests his company. As Fan Xian and Qi Nian travel with him, they are surprised to see all the shopkeepers gathered to greet him. To Fan Xian’s astonishment, they take him to a funeral hosted for his mother, bowing before her epitaph and celebrating Fan Xian’s return.
The chief shopkeeper reveals that he went to great lengths to find Fan Xian. Lady Qing Mei had told him about her son. He also discloses that Qing Mei had named her son Fan Xian, sensing her impending doom and wishing to name him before her passing. Had she survived, his name might have been different.
These revelations perplex Fan Xian, who remains curious about how his mother died. The shopkeeper is unsure of the circumstances of her death, but notes that the business was handed over to the royal family shortly after her passing.
He warns Fan Xian to be cautious, as the royal family closely monitors them. The emperor has even forbidden the Ye family from leaving the capital.
